A day trip to Saint Michael’s Mount

Chris and I took a day trip to Saint Michael’s Mount in Cornwall England this past August and it was 100% worth the trip. We visited on August 4th and the weather was perfect! It wasn’t too hot or too cold, and the sun was shining for most of the day.

Before arriving, you need to visit the attractions website and purchase tickets. They sell different types of day passes depending on what kind of trip you would like to have. For example you can buy a ticket to walk across the causeway or to get there by boat during high tide - and you must choose a time slot as the tide chart will determine the kind of ticket you will need. They also sell different passes if you would like to just tour the garden vs touring the castle.

I booked our tickets only a few weeks in advance and the castle tour tickets were booked so I would recommend booking in advance if that is what you are interested in doing!

I was able to book the ticket that allowed us to walk across the causeway and the garden tour. Our ticket time was from 3 - 5pm. There were multiple parking lots close to Saint Michael’s Mount so no need to worry about parking - just make sure if you park in the lots that you pay for parking!

When we arrived we began our walk across the causeway. It was 3:00pm and low tide. You could have walked all the way across the sand if you wanted to and not on the causeway. When you enter, there are a bunch of small shops and places to grab food, drinks and Cornish ice cream!

We made our way over to the garden which had the most beautiful variety of plants and flowers. Make sure you bring your camera because this was a photographers dream. We spent most of our two hours walking around and taking pictures. There is a large open park that you can sit and relax in and all the shops had the cutest little seaside trinkets.

This is where it gets interesting… right before 5pm as our ticket time was running out, we were hanging out taking pictures when we noticed a few couples sprinting past us. Thats when we realized the tide was coming in and if we wanted to make it back without getting soaked we had to leave now.

This was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Walking across the underwater causeway was insane and honestly… way more fun than the walk there. We made it across just in time before the tide got too high and we only got wet up to our ankles.

Saint Michael’s mount was an incredible experience and I would highly recommend anyone visiting the Cornwall area to check it out.
