A Day In Dartmouth

During our stay in Torquay, we decided to take a day trip to Dartmouth. If you know anything about me you will know that I am obsessed with small seaside towns. Growing up in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, any time I can find a seaside fishing town that feels like home, I am all for it.

From Torquay, we drove to Kingswear, where we were able to catch a ferry over to Dartmouth for the day.

It was cold and rainy this day so we were limited to the time we had for walking around. We started by exploring the narrow cobbled streets lined with unique boutiques and independent shops, where you can find everything from quirky homeware to handmade crafts.

What We Did:

Afterward, we headed to Dartmouth Castle, a historic fort that offers panoramic views of the town and the estuary. Don't miss the chance to take a scenic boat ride along the river, soaking in the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

We spent most of the day walking around and checking out the local shops, since we visited on New Years Day, a lot of the shops were closed, which was a bummer, but the town was so great in itself that it was still fun to walk around and check it out.

Where We Ate:

There are tons of charming riverside cafes or traditional pubs dotted along the Dartmouth waterfront. Indulge in fresh seafood, traditional pub fare, or delicious cream teas, all while enjoying the tranquil ambiance and picturesque views.

We stopped at one of the local pubs, Seven Stars for lunch, which claims to be England’s Oldest Pub. I had Parsnip Soup and a side of roasted vegetables, and it did not disappoint. The soup was so creamy and delicious (my first time having parsnip soup) and the vegetables were perfectly roasted and seasoned. The whole meal was delicious, I would recommend trying this restaurant while visiting.

After walking around for a while, we deiced to stop and grab some tea and a biscuit from the Bayards Cove Inn. Christopher’s mum has stayed at this Inn before in Dartmouth and would highly recommend a stay here.

We took the ferry back to Kingswear and drove back to Torquay for the night where we hung out at the apartment and played games all night. I would recommend visting Darmouth in one of the warmer months so you can really take in all that it has to offer.
